The pic to the left is a Michelangelo style pose but is NOT Tom! The guy in the pic does, however have a physique which a 16 yo should be capable of building.

This page is the new member page for Tom McCarrick. Use the e.mail link left to submit questions to this site, answers, photos etc. His new info is now entered, with a second page of routines. I hope we can recontact Tom. If you can contact him. please advise.

Tom got good results with the routine he gave us. Are there any other guys in the Rochdale / Middleton area - perhaps Chris and Dean, who would like to join here and post pics routines and other info? The site is free and it is possible to be a participant here and at the Yahoo! groups too. See link above left.

I found it hard starting off, because I couldn't see any gains. Patrick. This is not unusual, since the body often reacts by losing fat, so you actually look smaller! I don't take bodybuilding seriously (like Tyler and Ken) since I see it more as a hobby.

How and why I started

I have heard that Tom trained at Lathams, as I did a while ago. Like Jeremy he has a relatively small ribcage structure, but does seem to have already made some gains but sadly his pics were not sent. He was one of the skinnier guys in his year, but has changed a lot recently. Some of the others have made comments on his gains. I think Jamie, a mate of his may have been a bit envious! Kept saying he wonders what Tom looked like in a posing thong! A comment from Tom today. "Jamie says since Tom started to put on muscle, he has been given nicknames like "Cobra Neck" which Tom finds amusing!" Patrick. I guess we could get a look at Jamie too? (He had a stockier build).

Jeremy at 14, not Tom.

Tom has told me that he was 5'9 and weighs 10st 2lbs. approx. That is a slim ectomorph build.

Patrick writes:- The page still most useful to Tom and similar beginners are the beginner article, and the one on abs, (though Tom told me today that he has always had a 6 pack - lucky guy!) later as a separate bodypart workout. Bear in mind that there are alternative exercises there. You are NOT expected to do all of them! It is useful to make up an inclined board too. See Routines page too, since all separate groups are covered there.

Tom told me he got to the gym three times a week or so. In this case it might be an idea to follow an approach similar to Ken, i.e concentrate on one body area at a time. Tom already used that approach as well. See new page on my routines. I've split my exercises into separate bodyparts, with rest days between.

Sergey Litvinov (at 19)

Patrick writes. Remember that Sergei has been training seriously since early teens, whereas Tom has also been busy with studies. He currently is studying P.E. at A level, a course which covers musculature and other related matters. The exercises you do should be tailored to your own needs. You mainly "compete" against yourself - what you did last session.

Tom says, "I trained at Lathams for approx 15 months, mainly weights. I then joined Lancashire Health and Raquet club because there are more other facilities, eg sauna, steam room, showers, jacuzzi, swimming pool, football, tennis and squash courts.

I enjoy playing these sports at the club. Like I said, going to the gym is a hobby. I wasn't and still am not bothered about my size, even though I am in good shape. I was bored of just weights. I'm a sporting person and play sports for recreation.

Comment by Tom (17)

Basically I use the gym to keep in shape because I play football at weekends, but I train hard when I am there, so have developed a good size. The club I am now in has lots of cardio vascular machines which are very useful, eg running machines, rowers and steppers etc.

Bigger or simply better toned?

The use of weights can have these two effects.

Are you also a teen? Why not join the site and groups (see homepage)?
