I eat a lot says Nathan, but never seem to gain. I guess I must have a high metabolic rate! I'm interested in Martial Arts too, so a bit more weight might be an advantage.

How and why I started

I have not been able to gain weight so far, despite eating well. I'm burning up all I eat apparently, so am still quite skinny. I guess there must be some way to counteract this, so I'm gonna try to.

Jeremy at 14, not Nathan.

The situation you are in is not uncommon. You have the Ectomorph type of physique, like James (tall boy 25). It's a question of boosting intake after training, with some food at bedtime on that day. We grow muscle at night, so it makes sense to have some intake then

Exercise initially should be "whole body". The pages most useful to you are the beginner article, and the one on abs. There are arm and other exercises listed there too. Bear in mind that there are alternative exercises there. You are NOT expected to do all of them! It is useful to make up an inclined board too, for the harder "crunch" exercise. See Routines page too. There is a section on working out without weights as well.

Remember that Sergei has been training seriously since early teens.

Bigger or simply better toned?

The use of weights can have these two effects.
