The statue illustrated left caused a considerable stir when the 25 yr old Michelangelo unveiled it. Some even added a clip on fig leaf!

Igor a gymnast and, from Mirc, a great shot of Ray!

Ray has a fine light physique, All shoulder muscles are nicely balanced, Pecs too.

A gymnast physique here with upper muscle groups developed very well indeed. The leg development is less marked than a bodybuilder, since many exercise routines use arm strength and balance as you see here. Very big legs would be a disadvantage in this case.

Great natural physique!

A gymnast, as here, needs more upper body strength, rather than the very marked thigh muscle size favoured by a bodybuilder. It might seem strange, but a sprinter also needs quite considerable upper body power too, whereas soccer players not only need the sort of long term stamina of the distance runner (which implies light, wiriness overall) but also power in the legs, for kicking (the ball, not adversaries) and to stand the stress of rapid direction changes etc. They need to have strength in the minor as well as the major leg muscles. A greater upper body strength is needed for the rugby player, or the American Football player (there has to be something under the protective pads as well you know!) The Chap.com site ( Student Athlete Resource Centre) has pointers to all the weight training needed for these and other sports.
