Ok you've got the build - What about the posing!

This page illustrates the poses used in competitions.

1834

The aims of these poses are to demonstrate both the size and symmetry of your muscular development. Your pose should tense the muscles to show the "cut" as clearly as possible, and to give as symmetrical a view as possible where appropriate. (s)

Pose examples taken from the Web Bodybuilding Competition Group.(unless stated)

Web Bodybuilding Cup

This group ran one competition, see "Competition" link above, but voting closes tomorrow (Dec 30th.) The system of applying and voting looked eminently workable, with one of our members, Simon as a competitor. The poses below are suggestions as to what you should take for entry.

Entry forms and other information could be seen in Files at the group. I am unsure as to whether any continuation has taken place.

The Mandatory IFBB Competition Poses

Abs and Thighs (s)

Here the arms and shoulders are braced to allow the abdominals to be tensed. As it happens the whole torso also shows well in the pose. Aim for symmetry here.

The thighs are also tensed - this needs practice to do well, and it is not unusual for one leg to show better, in which case repeat with the other leg leading.

Crab

(most muscular)

The image has not processed too well!

Double Biceps and Lats

Whilst the emphasis is clearly on arms, shoulders and chest, this pose also demonstrates the lats and, as a result of the stance it also clearly shows Thigh (hamstring) and calf development in particularly the left leg. This pose is also done facing the judges.

Lat Spread (rear)

The emphasis here is to show the breadth of the back and the slimness of the waist at the same time. The hands pull the oblique area forwards as in this shot. The guy here is also, by distributing his weight onto one side showing the calf and leg bicep (hamstrings) in the right leg.

Intercostals

The image has not processed too well!

Lat Spread (front) (s)

This is the virtual mirror of the pose above, but avoiding hollowing the chest as well. The hands are in a slightly different position, but are doing the same job. The waist is pulled in as well here, though there is no intention to show off the abs.

Side Chest

Arms are acting both as a frame to the chest, and to raise the ribcage to display the pecs.

Side Triceps

The arms here show the triceps and biceps in opposition, with the emphasis on the former. The chest is also displayed as well in this pose, as are the abs.

Free Poses

Rear relaxed (s)

Again this looks "casual", but symmetry is again the aim, with just a suggestion of lat spread too, though not forced.

Kneeling Biceps ( a free pose)

Quite a difficult pose to balance, but presents the arms and chest well. It also demonstrates the fullness of your leg work as well.

Kneeling Chest (a free pose)

Very similar in effect to the previous pose and with similar results.

Front relaxed (s)

An apparently "casual" pose, but the abs are taut and the limbs are in a careful symmetrical position. Shoulders are back, helping to display the chest.

Most Muscular

This, as the title suggests aims to show as much muscle mass as possible,

Member poses are welcome here. How about it?

Attatch up to 4 photos to the message. They do not have to be compulsory poses. These will be included as your entry. Swimmer or Gymnast build is fine! You do not have to be huge!

If you have voted to enter here, could you prepare and upload info and pics.

This set of pics shows two young guys with fine physiques. Jeremy (above) was only 14 years old at the time, but looks assured in the pose and very cheerful too!.

Darren, who trained at Lathams in Middleton for some of the time was in late teens I think. He too has assymetric abs, but that's only for the real purist judge. All his bodyparts, including the calves have been well prepared for this posing shoot. Anyone know where he is now?
